Permanent Makeup Information: Guidelines, Precautions, and Procedure Preparation

Permanent cosmetics is a form of tattooing, also known as micropigmentation. Permanent makeup typically lasts 1 to 3 years. Touch-up procedures are almost always required after the initial procedure; please note that this is a two-step process, and pigment retention becomes significantly stronger after the touch-up. A minimum healing period of 6-8 weeks is required before a touch-up, depending on your age and skin type.

  • Final results can be seen 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
  • Pigment retention depends on several factors, including skin type, age, aftercare, lifestyle, sun exposure, medications, and vitamins.
  • In rare cases, pigment may slightly shift under the skin, especially with very oily skin or open pores. This can result in a darker and cooler color.
  • Applying permanent cosmetics may be painful.
  • Pigments will fade over time, and this process varies between clients.
  • Immediately after the procedure, the pigment may appear 30-50% darker than the final result.
  • Immediate or delayed allergic reactions to pigments may occur, though this is very rare.
  • A negative allergy test result does not guarantee that an allergic reaction will not occur.
  • Allergic reactions to anesthetics are possible.
  • Infections can occur if aftercare instructions are not followed correctly.
  • If you experience any signs of infection (fever, excessive swelling, itching, excessive redness), please consult a doctor.
  • Temporary eyelash loss may occur following eye procedures, but the lashes will regrow.
  • There is a possibility of scarring. If you are prone to keloid scars, it is advised to consult a doctor.
  • It is normal for the top layer of the skin to peel. Do not pick at it, as this can remove deeper layers of pigment and affect retention.

  • If you are currently taking antibiotics, the course must be completed at least two weeks prior to the procedure.
  • Eyelash Extensions (for permanent eye makeup): If you have eyelash extensions, they must be removed before the procedure. Eyelash extensions can be applied again four weeks after the permanent makeup procedure.
  • Steroid medications must be discontinued at least four weeks prior to the procedure.
  • If you have had a chemical or acid peel, it must be completed at least four weeks before the procedure.
  • Clients with diabetes should consult their doctor before the procedure. Please be aware that the healing process may take longer.
  • We do not perform permanent makeup procedures on clients with epilepsy.

Microblading: Is It Right for You?

Microblading is one of the most popular permanent makeup techniques, designed to mimic the look of natural eyebrow hairs. It’s done using a manual tool with a fine blade that makes tiny cuts in the skin. Pigment is deposited into these cuts, creating hair-like strokes. At first glance, it seems like a great choice for neat, well-defined brows. But before you decide, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Longevity: Microblading typically lasts up to 12 months, after which you’ll need a touch-up. If you have oily skin, the pigment may blur faster, making the strokes look less sharp and more blended.
  • Potential scarring: Because the technique involves tiny cuts, there’s a possibility of scarring, especially if your skin is sensitive.
  • Skin type considerations: Microblading isn’t ideal for oily, combination, or porous skin, or for individuals prone to scarring or with certain conditions like diabetes.

Why Shading or Machine Hair-Stroke Techniques Might Be Better Options:

  • Shading (Powder Brows): This technique works for all skin types, including oily or combination skin. It’s done with a machine that evenly deposits pigment, creating a soft, natural, and long-lasting effect. Results can last 1-3 years with proper care.
  • Machine Hair-Stroke Technique: This method replicates the look of natural hair without the risk of scarring. It’s gentler on the skin and a better option for sensitive or problematic skin types.

The Bottom Line:

If you have normal or dry skin and want a super natural look, microblading could work for you. But if you’re looking for a less invasive, longer-lasting solution—especially if your skin is oily—shading or machine hair-stroke techniques might be the better choice. Be sure to chat with your artist to find the best option for your brows and skin type!
